Repressed desires, sultry women, sweltering weather and a handsome new stranger in town...this is playwright Tennessee Williams at his very best. Depression-era Dodson, Mississippi, is particularly devastated with the arrival of Owen Legate (Robert Redford), a railroad official with a pocketful of pink slips for the rail yard employees. Natalie Wood is captivating as Alva Starr, the coquettish town flirt with plenty of big plans but nowhere to go...until Legate appears on her doorstep. Their ensuing affair enrages Alva's distant, uncaring mother (Kate Reid)—and ignites a town's revenge. Masterfully directed by Sydney Pollack (The Way We Were, Out of Africa, The Firm) and co-written for the screen by Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather trilogy), This Property Is Condemned sizzles with unbridled passion and fiery emotion.

Screw the critics! This movie has been special to me since I was a kid. I would watch this movie with my sister and it gets richer in appeal as I've matured. I understand and empathize with the characters. For the year it was done it is an added dimension to this story. Tennessee Williams is one of my favorite writers. I am sooo happy to finally find this film on a digital format after searching for years.

ROBERT REDFORD'S 2ND MOVIE w/WOOD - GREAT BUT SAD MOVIE - ALSO SHOWS TYPICAL ATTITUDES FOR THAT TIME AND HOW TRAIN REMOVALS HURT OR KILLED ENTIRE POOR COMMUNITIES- ALSO RACISM, ABUSE BY MEN, IMPLIED SEXUAL ABUSE - STILL, SHE SHOULDA WON OSCARS -34 FILMS FROM AGE 4, HER CHILDREN AND HER SISTER AS WELL AS WE -LOST AN INCREDIBLE WOMAN OF EMPATHY, COMPASSION & LOVE/RESPECT OF HER WORK - WE ALL MUST "TAKE COMFORT IN WHAT REMAINS BEHIND." I couldn't even say how many times I watched this movie growing up. Natalie and Redford are electric together! And the little girl from " To kill a mockingbird " was great as Natalie's sister. Even Robert Blake is in it!
