Award-winning actress Frances McDormand (Fargo) delivers a stunningly powerful performance in this darkly comic drama that has been hailed as one of the year’s best films. CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS! This movie is really frustrating. On the one hand, it has some genuinely clever and unconventional bits and great performances. But on the other hand, it expects me to laugh at things that are horrifying and THEN expects me to feel sympathy for the people who's done those horrifying things. It completely lost me at about the halfway point where the ex-husband hurt Mildred and her son holds a knife to the ex's neck. That scene is so goofy, and then it tries to make a joke out of the ex's ditsy, 19yo girlfriend. That woman is going to be killed by the ex-husband! Also, the Woody Harrelson character, who the movie sets up as a "good man", cracks jokes about having to keep racists who's tortured black people on the force is genuinely disturbing. And I'm not even going to get into the racist cop. This is a clumsy and unfunny movie.

Whatever "philosophical" approach you'll slap on the ending of this movie, when all things are said and done it remains unsatisfying. But then again, that's not the point of "Three Billboards". It's not the destination, but the voyage, and this voyage, as bleak and hopeless as it feels, is full of life nonetheless. McDormand and Rockwell are well worth the trip.

So many reasons why this is a good movie. But it is definitely not "enjoyable" to watch, or at least it is hard to watch at times, and it is far from a feel good ending! Everything else about this movie is great! ;-0 I would not recommend it, nor watch it again.
