As someone who is actually from Missouri I can tell you this film wasn't made anywhere near here (but I already knew that having previously looked up the filming locations). That being said.... SPOLER ALERT The ending of this movie PISSED ME OFF. We are under the impression throughout the majority of the film that there will be some type of justice for what happened to her daughter, but all the climactic elements set you up for is DISAPPOINTMENT. They never manage to find the guy.

A skillfully portrayed classic hillbilly tragicomedy that takes place in a backwater town in Missouri in which the protagonist's daughter is raped and murdered by an unknown assailant, who has remained for too long on the loose. The movie hits on all the notes of a modern American dysfunctional society, including inept law enforcement, racism, marital discord, misogyny, overt violence, unfettered rage, etc. The movie closes with an unresolved ending in which two key characters head off on a buffoonish road trip to Idaho sparked by avengement of the savage crime -- perhaps portending a sequel...

Thought provoking, nail freeze cletch driven, beautiful, one of the best films of the year, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri nails it's own billboard with a 5 star rating on it, which I'm sure the movie has been on a billboard, maybe even with a 5 star rating. The film teaches us to have sympathy for everyone, and in one scence with a deer with the sun peering through the mountains, well, this scence seems to be proving God exists, which for me as a Born Again Christian, was thought sending. Just don't watch this movie if you curse, there's alot of it in the film. Jesus is our only hope, God Bless, John 3:16.
