I could barely watch the movie to its end. The cast did not fit the characters in the book, except perhaps Lady Claire. Think of a bunch of wimpy metrosexuals playing the parts. Everyone has their hair combed and preened, clothes are clean and fresh, the men are pencil-armed. In the book, Marek is a brute, capable of winning a joust. In this, he is a Scottish dandy. I understand the movie almost always falls short of the book, but this one is really poor. It was obviously made quick and dirty for a buck, and that's it.

This movie knows how to make you care about characters and then make it matter when things happen to them, even to characters whom you know little about. It has an interesting and engaging story that provides strong motivations for each character. Not to say that it doesn't have its faults. The movie doesn't take time to explain its technology or more of the surrounding events. However, it rises above these faults with superb acting and some of the most realistic historical reenactments I have seen. In closing, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an original movie that is worth the time.
