but it was better as a book.. this movie is so so slow and convoluted .. For some reason the director had to result to violence to keep the pace going ... ie mother nursing baby gets shot in head in scene 2. tortured victims.. lady getting the crap beat out her. etc. what the heck. I was waiting for the zombies to show up. None of that stuff was in the book.... the book is intriguing on its own standing. There is absolutely no character follow though, people pop up here and there... back in history, and forward in history but it seems random... I know what they are trying to portray from the book, however the director kept missing key elements that carry the story along. I have watched some pretty deep mystery movies, where you have to really figure out the plot. But this movie is one where I wish there is a way I cold un see it.

This movie is not for everyone. It is a little confusing and might require either reading the book, reading a synopsis, or rewatching to fully understand what is going on. If you have the attention span of someone who thinks Bond movies are exciting, then maybe this is not for you. But if you appreciate slower films that force you to think vs. having everything spelled out to you in magic marker, then I suspect you will enjoy it immensely.

Zero character development, everything shrouded in absurd mystery. I get that spies are super secret, and you never really know the whole story, but it was clear the director didn't even know where this was supposed to go. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Keep yours.
