Despite the love thing between Rose and Jack, this movie is pretty much a remake of the 1958 movie A Night to Remember starring Kenneth More. That movie was created from the Walter Lord book of the same name, and I would say that James Cameron used it for inspiration for his movie too. If you watch both movies, you will see the similarities between the two and being almost identical in other scenes. I would have liked to have seen more reference to the Leyland Line ship the Californian though.

Possibly the greatest disaster movie ever made - the amount of work that went into this is staggering, and it shows: Everybody on both sides of the camera kills it. It's also heartbreaking but ultimately life-affirming. Utterly compelling viewing. Buy it. In the unlikely (but not impossible) event it ever gets screened on a real cinema screen again near you, go see it. In this case, size definitely matters.

OMG I SPOILER ALERT (don't read coment if haven't watched film yet) I cryed at these bits (not in order of film) 1 when jack died D: 2 when the last half of the ship was sinking and 3 when rose had to swim and blow the whistle and they had to save her 4 when skipper died (the sailer) and there was only one boat out of 15 that went back ONE OUT PF FITHTEEN and last is at the end when the film finished the music is so emotional any way great film love it :)
