영화 정보

Based on the true story of Captain Ernest Gordon, a young Scottish soldier taken prisoner by the Japanese at the height of World War II, TO END ALL WARS is a $14 million drama directed by 29 year old American David Cunningham. Starring Robert Carlyle, Kiefer Sutherland and Ciarán McMenamin as captive soldiers who discover three very different paths to survival, TO END ALL WARS explores man's deepest struggle for freedom in the face of inhumanity and despair. When Gordon's regiment, the elite Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, are captured by the Japanese and forced to build the infamous "Railroad of Death", the prisoners are pushed beyond endurance and against each other. Major Ian Campbell's (Robert Carlyle) defiant plans to escape and Lieutenant Jim Reardon's (Kiefer Sutherland) code of self-preservation soon run into conflict with the values of dignity and self-sacrifice shown by Gordon (Ciarán McMenamin) and POW Dusty Miller (Mark Strong). Led by the example of Miller, Gordon decides to start a college of liberal arts, an orchestra and a "church without walls" and gradually the men begin to place hope over bitterness and forgiveness over hostility. But Campbell remains certain that power can be seized in a coup d'etat if the prisoners act together. As the tension between the soldiers increases, they discover that despite the atrocities of life in the camp, the most dangerous war is the one fought within. After the war, Ernest Gordon wrote about his experiences in the book, "Through The Valley Of The River Kwai" which captured hearts and minds all over the world. The book became the film TO END ALL WARS. 2001 Argyll Film Partners LLC. Under exclusive license to Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment Ltd
