About this movie

A different kind of American independent horror film, Toad Road is a hallucinatory and hypnotic odyssey through mutating realities, drug use, urban legends, and nightmares. Stuck in a dead end town, young James kills time with his druggie friends, engaging in debauched chemical intake to the point of unconsciousness, until he meets Sara, a sweet new arrival to their group. However, Sara wants James to take her further into the world of narcotics experimentation and to introduce her to the sinister local legend of Toad Road, a spot deep in the forest that is apparently home to the Seven Gates of Hell. Writer-director Jason Banker's fiction feature debut is an enigmatic and unique fusion of improvisational realism and otherworldly, haunting rural terror..

I went into this film thinking it was going to be a conventional horror flick. I advise you not to do this. Is it a terrible low-budget film? No. Is it a good one? To me, honestly, no....I was left so confused with this movie. Yes I understood the similarities between the "Descent into Hell" aligned with the descent from a girls innocence into an avid drug user. It has a very good analogy of how the descent of drug use is like the descent into hell and it plays this out well with it's cinematography (Which is great for a low-budget film) and it's "Wastoid" cast. But I was kind of like "HUH?" at the end of it. The plot was left wide open in the end, and if the endings answer is what happened to the actress that plays Sara in real life then they really portrayed that in the film badly in my opinion. The reason it ended badly is because it tries to be too crafty....

I enjoyed this movie, but be prepared in the knowledge that hell is portrayed in the metaphorical sense, not literally. It is not scary, just eerie, and there are no jump scares. I found it to be a refreshing change of pace.

Made no sense! No real story line. Just a bunch of drugs, sex. Thought it would be much better. What a waste of money!!!
