I really wanted to like this movie. It's written in the vein of some of my favorite Linklater movies like Before Sunset except that the dialogue is too mean spirited for its context. A lot of what is said mirrors the great life observations one would hear in a Chris Rock stand-up show. Unfortunately, when placed in the context of everyday conversation between two people, it comes off a bit forced and unrealistic in terms of the delivery of the insights and the reactions to what is said. I like the intentions of this film, but it really needed another layer of abstraction between stand-up and it's application to dialogue...Louie does a really good job of this.

CAUTION CAUTION Buyer by ware!!! 😠. The only reason to watch this movie would be to see an over abundance of Hollywood and comedic talent on screen. Unfortunately they aren't in any developing roles. I can't believe how many with this much talent could be so sub par. Chris Rock is "literally" unbelievable and sucks the life out of this film. He's like a comedy vampire. Not to mention the misleading advertising. To much talent to be so boring.

Top Five is for all intensive purposes a autobiography put on screen, and it gives Chris Rock a chance to make fun of other people and whine about how horrible it is to be a rich actor, which got particularly annoying for me the longer the film went on. Their are some laughs here, and it features the best five minutes of Adam Sandler's acting career, but overall is a very forgettable comedy, just like Chris Rock.
