Seit mehr als 30 Jahren ist Pete „Maverick“ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) als Top-Pilot für die Navy im Einsatz. Als furchtloser Testflieger lotet er die Grenzen des Möglichen aus und drückt sich vor der Beförderung, die ihn auf den Boden verbannen würde. Als er eine Gruppe von Top-Gun-Absolvent:innen für eine Sondermission trainieren soll, trifft er auf Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) mit dem Spitznamen „Rooster“, den Sohn von Mavericks verstorbenem Co-Piloten und Freund Nick Bradshaw, „Goose“. Konfrontiert mit den Geistern der Vergangenheit, ist Maverick gezwungen, sich seinen tiefsten Ängsten zu stellen, denn die Sondermission wird von allen, die für diesen Einsatz auserwählt werden, das ultimative Opfer fordern.

I can't stop recommending this movie!! I saw it 6 times in theatres and it was phenomenal every single time! As a film student, it warmed my soul to realize that REAL movie making was still being done in an age where CGI is so misused and abused. Top Gun: Maverick walks the line beautifully between paying homage to the original, and bringing its own story and flare to the table. It's fun, punchy, and thrilling (and not without some great humour). I absolutely recommend this movie to ANYONE!

Refreshing, Feel good & Glorious. Actually outdoes the original. No politics or nanny morality police agendas. Pure golden entertainment without the fluff. Yes still unrealistic for those who know how fighter jets work but still worth it for those who dabble with combat flight simulations. Only downside are the cast of youths, who while not oppressive can still be annoying archetypes.

The world would be better if all sequels would be like this one. Nothing too fancy was needed. They have kept the same soundtrack, the same core actors and the same rich story and brewed everything together to provide us with the best jet movie from this generation.
