Peter Ustinov won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in director Jules Dassin's lighthearted thriller about five thieves (including Melina Mercouri, Maximilian Schell and Robert Morley) who undertake an 'absolutely impossible' grand theft in Istanbul.

Quite uninteresting screen play, rather forced gags. Hard to believe that this was all that popular back in 1964, but it certainly does not age well for 2017. In truth, I only could watch the first 15 minutes, maybe it greatly improves at some point later. A fair price for this would be $0.99 for a rental, but even then you would regret the time wasted.

A delightful entertaining way to spend 2 hours. Great character development. Filmed at a time when movies did not spend hours trying to see which director could out shock one another. The kind of movie you tell friends about and then go see it a second time with them.

I remember watching this movie for the first time when l was about ten years old and again several times as an adult and have always enjoyed it. I couldnt wait to visit Topkapi on a visit to Istanbul in 1995. It did not disappoint. Sandy Patterson
