Directed and produced by Academy Award ® winner Ellen Goosenberg Kent, Torn Apart: Separated at the Border focuses on two mothers, Maria and Vilma, who after fleeing from violence in their home countries, were detained and separated from their children, 10-year-old Alex and 11-year-old Yeisvi. With the help of pro bono lawyers and community volunteers, Vilma and Maria eventually reunite with Yeisvi and Alex, but their futures are uncertain as their asylum claims are still pending and the long-term, psychological effect of the separation from their children remains an open question.

If you consider yourself a good parent and you don't want to be separated from your children for any consequential amount of time one thing not to do is to attempt to illegally break in to our country. There are legal channels for this and while it may take a little more time you won't have your children taken from you and you'll have the comfort in knowing you're here legally.
