Troy is, unfortunately, one of the best examples of how even with an all-star cast, glorious set design and stunning visuals effects, a film can still fail when it lacks true heart and direction. Surprisingly, the visual effects were one of the highlights of the film, and nearly entirely hold up even by today's standards. The mass of Greek ships, the armies clashing into one another, and the vast cities and camps all looked and felt authentic. Enough so at least to hold the immersion in the ancient Greek world. The performances in this film however, rarely felt particularly convincing or emotional, and while the acting from the cast wasn't bad, they're by no means any of these actors best performances. In the end, the biggest flaw of this film is the screenplay and the editing; resulting in a nearly 3 hour film that feels like it's story could have easily been told in 2. The dialog is often bland and obvious, leading characters dully from one scene to the next, while the editing seems to at times simply end scenes when the main point has been addressed. It's these sloppy elements that leave Troy feeling tedious and uninspired, despite its many great qualities.

A tad vulgar at times, visually stunning and violent, Troy is still worth your time if you're not a historian or persnickety scholar. For some reason, this is one of those films I can watch over and over. The dialogue is awkward, though, for everyone speaks like modern day people.

This kind of story has not survived to be one of the oldest by being
anything less than absolutely amazing and toldbeautiful. I believe what
makes his story so great is that there is no good side bad side conflict.
Rather it makes you realize the grey area in everything, especially
conflict. You end up loving and hating both sides. Because it shows reality
of the nature of man. It doesn't give us a fake happy ever after ending but
a look through he lenses of reality. I would say that the movie really
captured this. A few differences from the actual story of homers iliad. But
I give it a 5 star review because it was great acting and the shots are
amazing. The battles are something that is absent in recent films. The
scenes are not some retarded shot of 10 guys with shaky camera action
filming. I would recommend it to anyone. Absolutely worth it!
