Wolfgang Petersen's "Troy" is an excellent epic war drama movie loosely based on Homer's poem, "Iliad." The movie plot was well written while including the important details of the original story. The movie has a decent pace not too fast or too slow. The writing is good as far as plot development goes The army special effects, movie sets and the scenery are all very beautiful. The costumes, the armor, the art and the weapons are impressive and stay true to the ancient Greek setting. The Aegean Sea looks so gorgeous. The clashing of swords and smashing of shields are heard so powerful and clear. The war between Ancient Greece and the Trojans is epic in scale and isn't about poetry. The movie dialogue was very good. The cast is overall excellent and delivers wonderful performances. Brad Pitt is awesome as Achilles. Brad Pitt delivers an upstanding performance by giving the right amount of power and strength for his character, Achilles. Eric Bana is terrific by portraying Hector as a noble, brave prince. Sean Bean was born for the role as Odysseus. Peter O'Toole gives a wonderful performance as Priam, the King of Troy. Orlando Bloom is very good as Prince Paris of Troy. Diane Kruger was a brilliant choice for the role as Helen of Troy. Brian Cox is outstanding as villainous King Agamemnon and is so convincing. Brendan Gleeson was excellent as Agamemnon's brother, Menelaus. Rose Byrne was good for her role as Briseis, a priestess and cousin to Hector. Saffron Burrows who plays Andromache gives easily an excellent performance. The lines are well delivered by the cast and their characters are believable. This movie contains some of the most elaborate action sequence. The fight scenes are great. The battle sequence between Hector and Achilles is one of the best choreographed fight scenes in epic war movies. The violence is likewise beautiful with blood and guts galore both on the battlefield and in single combat. The music score is very amazing. "Troy" is very action-packed and beautifully well-made. A very good, absorbing, entertaining movie with top-notch performances and a compelling story. You'll be connected with the magnificent and timeless qualities of the Homeric universe. Still one of the greatest epic movie drama ever made with Ancient Greek elements.

The more I see this movie the more I enjoy it. The Odyssey it is not, so don't expect that. Just expect a rolicking ride through terrific action, monstrous battles, spot on acting, and one of the best one-on-one fights in movie history. The Director's Cut adds little to the tale but extends the already epic nature (and more violent, risque points as well). Great stuff here.

I don't understand how this piece of garbage is so god damn highly rated. Brad Pitt is so effing BORING and wooden. I wanted to crawl through the screen and punch him in the balls just to see if he would make a different facial expression. I stupidly sat there for hours hoping it would get better but nope. Was hoping for an epic adventure but got massive disappointment. The music wasn't terrible so there's that. I love how butthurt people get when you point out how awful this movie is lol.
