Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

In the 28th century, Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha — an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence, and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Horrible.... just horrible... I reaallly tried to get all the way through it, but failed miserably about a quarter way through. Just because CG technology now allows for 50 trillion things to happen on screen all at once, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to do so. Not to mention, the 2 main characters are the absolute worst. Cara Delevigne was absolutely UNBEARABLE and Dane Dahaan (whilst a bit of a better actor) looks like a hungover heroin addict in every scene.

If you are into kids in space or Enders Game (which I'm definitely not) then this might be your thing. 5th Element is one of my favourite films, but this is way down the bottom of my list with lack of story, and the only acting coming from people other than the 2 lead actors. There are some moments of nice CGI, so you could be forgiven for having this movie playing in the background with the sound off. As an alternative, take a look at John Carter from Mars, you may be pleasantly surprised!

L'histoire d'amour était trop "cheesy". Impossible de s'y prendre. Et les "side quests" prenaient trop de place, alors que l'intrigue principale n'avait pas beaucoup de consistance. J'ai bien aimé le fait de voir de nouveaux et jeunes acteurs en tête. Kris Wu, surtout. Le personnage que jouait Rihanna, tristement, manquait de profondeur. Et j'ai détesté Laureline. Elle était impulsive, désagréable avec tout le monde et ce la jouait un peu trop avec son air d'adolescente gothique qui n'écoute personne et préfère prendre la défense d'un petit peuple étranger au lieu de défendre son gouvernement. Quel genre d'agent spécial fait ça?! Et Valérian qui abandonne tout pour les beaux yeux de Laureline? Complètement irréaliste et juste stupide. Mais enfin, l'esthétique du film était impeccable et les scène de poursuites étaient assez époustouflante. C'est un bon film si on y réfléchit pas trop. Ou plutôt si on met son cerveau complètement à off.
