I found the books for $1 each at an op shop and smashed through them pretty quickly. If you enjoyed the books, you have to go into this movie with the right mindset. Don't go in expecting a good product that translates the book, you will be disappointed like I was. Halfway through the movie, I threw in the towel and accepted that this was going to be a terrible adaptation of the book. This is when my experience got better. I treated viewing this dumpster fire like watching The Room. Change my expectation of quality, sit back and laugh at the director's terrible job. There are so many points in the movie that where I was pissed off that they buggered up the book dialogue, that later after my forced perspective shift, made me laugh. When you have a dialogue going on and a character is halfway through a sentence looking into the sky and the camera changes angles, with the character still saying the exact same thing she was but facing straight forward, it looks like she can teleport and it looks terrible. The film makers don't check for these inconsistencies? I will give the movie this however. The action scenes were actually pretty cool and the scenery was beautiful. I also concede that the second half of the movie noticeably improves in regards to dialogue and continuity. At the end of the day, you can enjoy this movie even if you are a fan of the books but you have to go in expecting the B grade experience and not a faithful, high quality adaption from the book. I can't believe I am saying this but I kind of want to see how they do with the next movie if they ever get funding again and see if it is another laughable dumpster fire, or they find their feet far earlier in the film and make something worth more than 2 stars.

I had a moment of weakness, I knew this film looked bad from the title, cover and the preview. I felt compelled to write a review after watching 10 minuets, to try to help people, if they are having a moment of weakness in choosing a better film. Rubbish. absolute definitive crud. complete waist of everything that is associated with this film. I feel sorry for people like the person that cooked the food on set because they did not have an idea of the monkey nuts that they where filming.

What a waste!! The book was absolutely fantastic and they had the chance to make this a movie for everyone. Instead they produced a poorly scripted, horribly actored and pathetically directored pre-teen trash film. The actors were talking too fast and the whole move lacked any substance. Very very disappointed.
