With Vampyr, Danish filmmaker Carl Theodor Dreyer channeled his genius for creating mesmerizing atmosphere and austere, unsettling imagery into the horror genre. A host of stunning camera and editing tricks and densely layered sounds create a mood of dreamlike terror. The story is basic and simple, but the special effects are amazing considering this film was done in 1932. How did ghost and shadow people happen? No green screen and CGI back then. The acting was decent for people essentially brought in off the streets. If you're digging your way through classic/old-time horror films, this is definitely one to watch.
