About this movie

Considered by many to be director Alfred Hitchcock's greatest achievement, Leonard Maltin gives Vertigo four stars, hailing it as "A genuinely great motion picture." Set among San Francisco's renown landmarks, James Stewart is brilliant as Scottie Ferguson, an acrophobic detective hired to shadow a friend's suicidal wife, Madeleine (Kim Novak). After he saves her from drowning in the bay, Scottie's interest shifts from business to fascination with the icy, alluring blonde. When he finds another woman remarkably like his lost love, the now obsessed detective must unravel the secrets of the past to find the key to his future.

This film is nearly perfect to me. The performances are great (Stewart as a man obsessed is totally believable) and there are few holes in the story that can't be explained. The mystery of the first half is great to follow and the second half where Stewart is trying to piece together his past can get tense. I'm not fond about why the movie ended the way it did, but it still gives me chills so I guess it worked as intended. One of my favorite Hitchcock films.

A guy afraid of heights: Only ๏ปฟthe genius of Alfred Hitchcock could make a movie such as this work. I've long admired Hitchcock's movies since I was a child ! He loved unknown actors as well., and made them stars. Mr. Hitchcock... I "still" salute you !!
