Headstrong Kit Bennett (Ann Sothern) is in love with a recently divorced man, but is forbidden to marry him by her father, who wants her to hold out for a better suitor. Kit, hoping to get even with her parents for interfering in her love life, hires Pete Quinlan (Gene Raymond) to impersonate a snooty French aristocrat come to woo her. Pete acts like a complete pompous fool, and the Bennetts are initially repulsed by his caricature, but pretend to like him when they discover Kit's ruse.
