In an alternate 1985 United States, superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the Doomsday Clock -- which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union -- moves closer to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the outlawed but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes.

The Ultimate Cut helps make the story feel as grand as a full comic book series. Powerful themes. Very mature. It also got a sequel truly worthy of it when the big budget TV show recently arrived.

I consider this along with Spiderman 2 and Hellboy as the most comicbookie movies of all time. This delivers a gritty and spectacular story. Like a graphic novel come to life.

The Director's cut is really excellent. But if you feel like getting the whole comic experience this is really fun.
