The story allows you to sympathize with Reese Witherspoons character stuck in a loveless marriage to an abusive husband who holds everything she loves dear; performing and later on the new elephant Rosie. Rosie is a huge part of the story as she is beaten by Marlena's volatile husband August and draws together the two lead characters Jacob and Marlene
