Josh (Ben Stiller) en zijn vrouw Cornelia (Naomi Watts) leiden een zorgeloos droomleven in New York. Josh werkt vol passie aan zijn nieuwe documentaire en Cornelia heeft een succesvolle carrière als filmproducent. Wanneer al hun vrienden aan gezinsuitbreiding beginnen, merken Josh en Cornelia dat ze misschien toch niet meer zo jong zijn als ze zelf denken. Net op dat moment komt een stel hippe twintigers hun leven binnengewandeld. De vrijgevochten Jamie (Adam Driver) en zijn vriendin Darby (Amanda Seyfried) zijn spontaan, cool en maken van elke dag een feest. Hun enthousiasme en zelfvertrouwen werkt aanstekelijk voor de twee veertigers. Maar hoe lang kan deze ongewone vriendschap blijven duren?

I feel like this movie had so much potential, but it loses itself halfway. I was really hoping this movie would deal with coming to terms with growing up and portray an interesting story of reinvention in midlife crises or something like that. The movie unfortunately becomes unnecessarily complex. Focussing too much on the ego of Stillers character. This is surprising cause the movie is dealing with some very recognisable situations, which could've been done better... i think. All in all this is a bit of mess and i'm mostly giving stars for what this movie could have been. I do really like the work Stiller is doing in recent movies like Walter Mitty for example. And i hope new projects will see him return to that form. 6/10 for Enjoyment.
