In this animated fantasy set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, a good and wise wizard named Avatar fights to save the Earth from mutants controlled by his evil brother, Blackwolf. Blackwolf, who draws his power from horror and hatred, employs war machine technology in the hope that he can enslave all surviving Earthlings in this fast-paced adventure featuring the voice of Mark Hamill.

Interesting animation choices. Lousy storytelling. I remember having seen this as a kid, but never remembering any of the contents... seeing it again, I realize that it's because they're not memorable. I will say some of the backdrops are really captivating, but the viewer is never really given a chance to explore them.

I grew up with this movie, this inspired me into making movies of this magnitude (don't know why). However (even though I give this 5 stars) there are small flaws with the story and the animation is dated, it has a well-established backstory and setting, goofy yet charming characters and an awesome dark atmosphere. You don't see animations like this anymore and I personally feel that adds to the dark, gridy atmosphere. I would recommend this to anybody.

A unique classic. A lot of folks aren't too impressed with the low-budget animation choices but they do add to the unique character. Bakshi had considerable obstacles to overcome to get this to the theaters and it's worth learning the backstory on this one to better appreciate the cinematic significance here.
