A real estate tycoon, his coke-binging wife and a wino are the latest victims in a series of grisly murders. A veteran NYPD detective suspects the killings may be supernatural and deliberate: ages-old beings of cunning intelligence and incredible power, defending their turf from the encroachments of humankind.

A terrifying horror film that's unlike any werewolf film made in the 1980s. Imagine a pack of supernatural grey siberian wolves with razor sharp teeth roaming New York City for human prey and you're not far off from realising what Albert Finney's NYC detective is hunting for. These creatures truly are an literally unstoppable and beautiful force of nature and I would give Wolfen (1981) five stars if not for some very brief scenes of archived animal cruelty glimpsed on-screen.
