This ground-breaking documentary also offered an early career boost to a young Martin Scorsese ("GoodFellas," "The Aviator"), who served as an editor and assistant director. If you don't like an act, they don't hang around for long. A pretty swift three hours really.

It was another time and synesthesia was the rule of the day. For me it was the time of first loves, and career beginnings with the underground press. My writings were of war and peace and the music was about incidents and dreams. Just watching this film brought it all back.
