About this movie

Robin Williams stars as Lance Clayton, a man who has learned to settle. He dreamed of being a rich and famous writer, but has only managed to make it as a high school poetry teacher. His only son Kyle (Daryl Sabara) is an insufferable jerk who won't give his father the time of day. He is dating Claire (Alexie Gilmore), the school's adorable art teacher, but she doesn't want to get serious -- or even acknowledge publicly that they are dating. Then, in the wake of a freak accident, Lance suffers the worst tragedy and greatest opportunity of his life. He is suddenly faced with the possibility of all the fame, fortune and popularity he ever dreamed of, if he can only live with the knowledge of how he got there.

Lance has a disappointing life. His manuscripts are always rejected. His son is a rude crude and hateful s.o.b. When his son dies in an embarrassing accident, Lance covers it up with a touching suicide note. Before long, everyone is saying how much they have been helped by the note. Lance can't help digging himself in deeper. Robin Williams gave a wonderful performance - honestly one of my favorites. Even though many of the other actors' performances are stilted, it's easily one of my favorite movies.

When you see reviews that give out generous perfect 10s to movies, you go into them with high expectations. This was one of those cases. It was "good," in a way, but also pointless and unnecessary in the grand scheme of cinema. I would be more interested in rewatching Mrs. Doubtfire.

Robin Williams gives the best performance of his career in this outstanding and hilarious movie. Bobcat Goldthwait is a master of dark comedy here, and almost all of three Jones hit home. The finale will have you in tears of laughter and sadness. Do not miss this gem.
