영화 정보

Kaya Scodelario (Skins) as Cathy and James Howson as Heathcliff lead an impressive British cast in this timeless story of two of the most memorable lovers in literature. A Yorkshire hill farmer on a visit to Liverpool finds a homeless boy on the streets. He takes him home to live as part of his family on the isolated Yorkshire moors where the boy forges an obsessive relationship with the farmer's daughter. This raw and gritty version of Emily Brontë's classic novel is ruthlessly brought down to its essential roots, and presents us with an adaptation that's startlingly original and completely unforgettable.WUTHERING HEIGHTS is Academy Award®-winning writer-director Andrea Arnold's third feature following the BAFTA® award winning, Fish Tank and Cannes Jury Prize winning Red Road.

This seems so promising, especially as it stars Kaya Scodelario (who is a perfect choice for Cathy), and I was excited to watch it. I've read the book several times, since I was a young teenager (it was, for many years, my favourite novel), and I think I've watched every adaptation. For me, the 1978 BBC TV series remains the best, so far. This version, however, is such a disappointment. I understand what it aims to achieve but it just doesn't get there. I tried to give it a go, a few times, but just couldn't see it through. A shame.

I love the book, and this trashed it. Removed all the ghost story and supernatural elements of the doomed romance tale, didn't even have the famous ghost scene from Chapter 2.... every other film adaptation is better than this one, this is easily the worst of them. Wrecked it. You are better off listening to Kate Bush, her pop song was a better adaptation than this entire film was.

Well it's not the beat version, it stays fairly true. I'll stick with the Olivier (own it) version, which I own. If I find version that I want to keep, you'd know about it.
