The play, Xanadu, got everything that failed about the movie, right. So many great actors, such creativity, a great soundtrack, and a great story, and a stinker of a film. There is no explanation of the story; at the end of the film, you are left thinking, "What the heck did I just see?" In the movie it's just some people dancing and one of them is a goddess or something. There's a lot of creativity though, but it runs rampant. It's cheesy and silly; heck, Gene Kelly is going out in style, dancing and skating! The movie doesn't capitalize on it, it takes itself too seriously, and it is this incompatibility that kills it. The play adaptation, however, (which made it to Broadway) understands this, and makes it a comedy, letting the fun and creativity of the move shine. All in all, you can see the potential and feel pity as you watch it flounder. (Along with Olivia Newton John's acting career)

This movie is AWESOME! Don't care what the haters say! Gene Kelly's last movie wasn't a flop, it was iconic! Everyone rollerskated everywhere back then so it was only a matter of time before that disco infused wheel driven madness was put on the silver screen. It's music is phenomenal! Olivia Newton John AND E.L.O? What? If you listen to the critic's who offer a negative perspective, I suggest you watch the movie and listen to the music, and judge for yourselves... It's an iconic movie!
