À propos de ce film

After a New York harbor patrolman is murdered at the hands of a flesh-hungry ghoul aboard what was believed to be an abandoned yacht, Anne (Tisa Farrow)--the daughter of the ship's missing owner--teams up with a newspaper reporter named Peter West (Ian McCulloch) for a private investigation. With the help of a pair of sightseers, they travel to the secluded Caribbean island of Matul, where Anne's father was last seen conducting medical research. There, they meet his colleague, Dr. Menard (Richard Johnson), who frantically attempts to find a scientific explanation for a phenomenon that has plagued the island; it seems as if the dead refuse to stay dead. The locals believe a voodoo curse is at work as scores of animated corpses rise from their graves to hungrily seek out live flesh. Anne learns her father has died, but before she and the others can return to civilization, they are forced into battle with a plethora of bloodthirsty zombies.

I really enjoy the opening in the NYC harbor. The cheesy dialog dub, the disco soundtrack and the solve "the mystery of the zombie yacht" set-up is definitely my favorite stuff. But once the film moves to the island it gets slow and boring. The FX are outrageous but honestly, very gross. As with much of Fulci's gore, it's just too real. To crusty, moldy and slimy; like weeks old food leftovers. Its a visual turn off, even for this gorehound. Most notable: The underwater Zombie Vs Shark scene WOW

If you read a bad review of this movie, then you know that critic is a cultural idiot whose opinion is best ignored. So it's a good litmus test, really. This is genre setting Italian splatter giallo with an impeccable soundtrack. There is a scene that's worth the price of admission... you'll know it when you see it.

I first seen this on VHS back in the early eighties. Being a horror buff. The makeup effects is spot on. The ladies throat being ripped out, to the eye gouging. Nothing was held back, if you like the gore you won't be unhappy. And yes the story line was ok.
