The sheriff of Potters Bluff, Rhode Island, becomes embroilled in investigating a sudden spate of strange murders where people passing through the town are killed by mobs of mysterious people. No one else in the town seems concerned by the events and as the Sheriff struggles to find out what is happening, clues begin to point the many of the local inhabitants being involved in the killings, including his own wife Janet.
