Although not quite as good as Boorman's previous film "Hope and Glory" (which was superb) this was still an highly enjoyable semi-autobiographical look back at 1950s British National Service in the army which is well worth watching. Nicely shot, with male characters mostly strong and believable but maybe some of the female ones less so. It seemed quite accurate in terms of period details.
