One of the best family-oriented period-pieces ever made, this movie was a favorite as a kid, and continues to be so into adulthood! Meredith Salenger is unforgettable as Natty Gann, portraying a teenager (15) living during the Great Depression, a time when hope was hard to find for many- including herself and her father, Sol, who is desperate to find a job. Unforeseen circumstances separate Sol from Natty, but distance cannot destroy their close and unbreakable bond! Natty must find her father at all costs. What follows is an unforgettable journey which will remind you that no matter how hard life gets, there is always hope! This film teaches you about the hardships of the Great Depression, but with a classic Disney twist that allows heartfelt sentimentality into the mix, making it easier for the younger ones to swallow. Along the way Natty's trust in humanity is tested again and again-but it's not in vain! She meets two individuals who will share in the "Journey": two faithful friends whom Natty will never forget! This story is one I think that every family should share together. Recommended for kids ages 10 and up due to some adult themes- a great film that everyone can cherish!
