On the surface, Piranha Sharks is an fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. True to the B comedy horror genre, the film's namesakes are outrageous to the point of silly and the characters are caricatures of the expected archetypes. The best part are the numerous pop culture references, homages to classic cinema, and political commentary that was demonstrated both in the dialogue and by the plot of the film itself. This is definitely a thinker's film. I was most impressed by how the film's references and subtexts hit the right balance of being subtle enough to blend seamlessly into the fictional setting and not becoming overly narcissistic or preachy.
