John Wayne makes this a great movie. You just have to overlook John Agar's acting and dreary love story and for me an odd retelling of Tarawa where it looks like they stormed one pillbox and then casually just moved onward when in reality it was one pillbox at a time, one machine gun emplacement at a time on an island the size of a postage stamp (well maybe a bit bigger). And of course the scene at the end on Mount Suribachi was just the start of a long, deadly battle. Lots of actual footage in parts as well.

So ive watched it and loved it but the reason i rented it was because play store gave me $0.99 reward for something and i "used" it to watch the movie but my mum got a notification that it charged her 1 dollar and she said she had 1 dollar on her account. So im confused whats happening. So either the monry given was fake or it didnt transfer somehow.

John Wayne was a VERY patriotic man, God bless his soul. Movies like this that supported the Armed Forces was one way he showed his reverent respect for the men and women who daily sacrifice their lives for our freedom.
