About this movie

The epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and awe of its ferocious visual style faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at swordpoint. And moviemaking with a cutting edge. MPAA Rating: R ©

If you study the history of the Greko-Persian wars, you'll see that days before the Persian Army reaches Hellas borders, the Athenians start leaving their hometown in fear. The 300 men led by Leonidas hinder the Persians for a little while but they get crushed under the Persians' feet. The Persian Army flattens any resistance and conquers Greece effectively taking their revenge as the Greeks had assassinated Xerxes's father. It was the Persians who grew beards not the Greek. So ridiculous!

I love Gerard Butler, and actions movies, so clearly this was made for me! Obviously not complete true to the original story but I liked this take on it. Some found the narrator distracting but I liked the story telling feel it provided. I'm excited to watch this with my boys when they get older (much older).

It's not a movie, it's just a visual Joke. In this joke you can't find any part of history. That time Iranians were number one in both power and culture and Xerxes attacked to Greece to revenge because of his father and of course Iranians easily won the battle. Just that!
