About this movie

Julie Christie stars as a beautiful and fiercely independent Englishwoman of the 19th century in this lush and moving adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic romantic novel Far From The Madding Crowd. When proud, headstrong and unmarried Bathsheba Everdene (Christie) inherits a farm, she becomes a woman of independent means. Although three men court her, Bathsheba refuses to settle for less than a perfect suitor ... which she will never find. But after she does agree to marry, Bathsheba realizes the mistakes she has made and the damage her actions have caused.

A stellar cast. Marvellous country. Usual twisted Hardy plot.

Julie Christie, Alan Bates, Terence Stamp and Peter Finch in a wonderfully romantic Thomas Hardy tale. What's not to like?

Saw it in the movies in 1967. Loved it then, and still do.
