About this movie

In a parallel universe, World War One is imminent as we follow the gripping story of human resistance fighters who march to battle against the second invasion of the Martians. In 1899, the Earth was attacked by ruthless invaders from the planet Mars. The MartiansÍ 80 ft tall, heat-ray spewing, Tripod battle machines laid waste to the planet, but the invaders ultimately fell prey to EarthÍs tiny bacteria. Fifteen years later, Man has rebuilt his shattered world, in large part by utilizing captured Martian technology. Equipped with giant, steam-powered Tripod battle machines, the international rapid reaction force, is MankindÍs first line of defense against the return of the rapacious Martian invaders. And return the Martians do. The rematch finds the multinational battle squad tripod ñGoliathî on the front-lines of a vicious interplanetary offensive. This time the Martians are using even more advanced alien technology. In the crucible of combat, the young crew helming the mighty Goliath will be tested to the limits of their endurance and courage as they fight for MankindÍs very survival under the onslaught of an implacable enemy.

I can't really speak for H.G Wells but I was pretty amazed that this mindless excess of big guns and explosions be promoted as a sequel to War of the Worlds. Beyond the bastardization of Wells original concept is the utter banality of the dialog and action. Well at least the director is into recycling. The only reason for characters to exist is to show off the (so called ) steampunk CG models. Cheap Korean animation and ludicrous steroid pumped character designs results in what is essentially a film length Saturday morning version of worn out 1980's cliches for action adventure toy driven shows. It's hard to overlook one of the original promotions for the film advertised it as R rated with "sex in the cockpit". Classy. It's unfortunate considering many talented individuals contributed to the film including Malaysian concept design from Studio Climb.

Having re-read the original novel recently, I went looking for more content to engrossing my Martian fancy in. This movie popped up and thought it was an interesting twist to the story. Visually, the film is your typical anime flick, but that's about as far as my pleasantries go. Without rehashing several comments already said about the movies characters, plot, and pacing, let's me just say to save you pennies for something better.

This is horrible. Its full of racial stereotypes and is just badly made. It does have credit for the man-made tripods though. All and all. Horrible cartoon of a good idea.
