Al Klein (Christopher Meloni) and his longtime friend, Ash Martini, (Dean Norris), own a used car lot. These two know every trick in the book when it comes to selling cars. Martini is a good-time charley, who never settled down and loves nothing better than to pick up girls using the same comic routine he uses in his day job. But although Klein, has a beautiful girlfriend (Garcelle Beauvais), he is desperately pining for his ex-wife Barbara (Bridget Moynahan), now remarried to a wealthy venture capitalist (Xander Berkeley) whose disdain for Al's small-time, wheeler-dealing is all too apparent. After their son, Freddy, (Devon Bostick), graduates high school, he drops a bombshell, he wants to forego college in favour of selling cars with his delighted old man. His mother is horrified but Freddy proves himself no slouch when it comes to manipulating customers and transforms from innocent young man into jaded car salesman overnight. But what's good for Al might not be the best thing for Freddy. Is Al really willing to let his son tread the same "small time" path that has hampered him all his life?
