About this movie

From the legendary Studio Ghibli, creators of Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, and Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki, comes a heartwarming adventure. When Sosuke, a young boy who lives on a clifftop overlooking the sea, rescues a stranded goldfish named Ponyo, he discovers more than he bargained for. Ponyo is a curious, energetic young creature who yearns to be human, but even as she causes chaos around the house, her father, a powerful sorcerer, schemes to return Ponyo to the sea.

I've been a Ghibli fan since the 90s.....but this movie happens to be my least favorite. Animation was great as usual....however i found the "mermaid" to be an extremely annoying character. Can't handle her screaming like a toddler to communicate throughout the movie. Considering it's Ghibli, I gave a 3 instead of a 1 or 2 star.

(HBO Max) I really love the movie. It did feel short, even if it's nearly 2 hours. It makes me want to ask ask a lot of questions. I kept wondering about the octopus and the family house's glass sliding door.

Miyazaki tends to make movies for very specific audiences. This one is really meant for young girls, but the movie has appeal for everybody. It's delightful and light-hearted, and it should not take you long to understand why Miyazaki is worshipped by the animators at Pixar.
