About this movie

Master chronicler of post-War England Terence Davies directs Rachel Weisz as Hester Collyer, the wife of an upper-class judge (Simon Russell Beale) and a free spirit trapped in a passionless marriage. Her encounter with Freddie Page (Tom Hiddleston), a troubled former RAF pilot, throws her life into turmoil, as their erotic relationship leaves her emotionally stranded and physically isolated.

Normally I enjoy both actors but the chemistry in this movie just fell flat. I didn't mind that the movie dragged along the entire time but nothing interesting was happening. I couldn't watch all the way through to the end because it just lost my interest. If you don't mind dull and predictable sure watch it but just my two cents it's not the best.

Melodramatic, nothing subtle about this movie. Meandering flashbacks made for confusion. I don't understand a female character so obsessed with a callow man. Even if he is played by Tom Hiddleston!

Very artistic and basically a film without a plot, but instead shows human nature and behaviour. It is a bit slow and rather an acquired taste.
