About this movie

Caius Martius 'Coriolanus' (RALPH FIENNES), a revered and feared Roman General is at odds with the city of Rome and his fellow citizens. Pushed by his controlling and ambitious mother Volumnia (VANESSA REDGRAVE) to seek the exalted and powerful position of Consul, he is loath to ingratiate himself with the masses whose votes he needs in order to secure the office. When the public refuse to support him, Coriolanus's anger prompts a riot which culminates in his expulsion from Rome. The banished hero then allies himself with his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius (GERARD BUTLER) to take his revenge on the city. © Coriolanus Films Limited 2010

I will just go ahead and annoy the Thespians! Shakespeare did have his off days and this play is not his finest work. I say that because if you read Plutarch this play pretty much repeats his life of Coriolanus word for word. I'm not saying that dramatising such a work is by any means easy, far from it. To even attempt such a thing would require ambition and genius. That being said the acting in this film is superb and it flows very well. The words and action mix very well.

So we take the time-tested script of Coriolanus and update it using the fall of Russian-bloc unity to provide the footage of the clamouring masses amidst once untouchable stables of governance. If one were to strip away all pretence and subterfuge of modern politics, this is what you see.

Was looking forward to a good fight movie...The whole storyline got lost in the way they speak.Whats with the Shakespere speech in a modern day movie.Nobody speaks like that no more..NOT WORTH WATCHING
