This is probably the second best mainstream adaptation of a Philip K Dick novel. The first being Blade Runner by Ridley Scott. I would argue that Scanner Darkly is the most accurate adaptation but we also have Total Recall, Adjustment Bureau, and TV adaptation of The Man in the High Castle. Two of the best in Hollywood, Spielberg and Cruise are on full display at the top of their craft here. It really doesn't get much better than this.

I'd like it more I'm sure if anyone else but Tom Cruise was the lead. The problem with Tom Cruise is he's always Tom Cruise, so one dimensional with little to know range. Every character he plays is the same.
