It's a mess. It's all over the place, there's like four different stories all flickering in and out every three minutes. I heard the ghost can now move, and was expecting some globetrotting to solve the mystery. Instead you get random shorts- here's proof: A man walks into a store, says "hi" to the clerk, and then in the cereal aisle, the ghost snatches him into the shelf. No explanation given, man wasn't in any other scenes. Was this a deleted scene, or completely made up by me? Exactly.

Not a reboot as it relies on the 2004 film as a base for it's story. They used amber tone for the night lighting and I felt myself spending more time thinking about how I've never seen that color on real life at night, realizing I was completely taken out of the story. The whole film feels like it could have been reduced to about 45 minutes.

Eh. The movie itself is told in a very disjointed manner, jumping around instead of having a linear timeline. This makes it confusing and convolulted, not as well-told as the original Grudge movies. The fact that Kayako isn't even in the film makes it feel like it's not part of the original story... like a whole other movie with very little connection to the original. Not that great. I still prefer the original. And no -- this is NOT a remake.
