This movie was made in 1954, a mere 9 years after the atomic bomb attacks on Japan. It was also made at the beginning of the cold war. Both of these had a significant impact on the movie and, to a large extent, reflected the chaotic re-structuring of Japan. It is not "Godzilla King of All Monsters" with Raymond Burr, which ingnores the sociopolitical dynamics surrounding the making of Gojira. This is a great film coming out of the nascent Japanes film industry and first introduced American audiences to Kaiju. If you don't like black and white films then never, ever what a classic movie again.

Gonna copy and paste my review due to it being the same thing :p Ok, lets get started here. I am a HUGE Kaiju fan. I know all the songs and movies. For my opinion of Gojira, its a pretty scary film; not so usual in showa! The roars of Godzilla are so deep and different than most others, and its classic. The concept is original. This concept is not seen again or in the same ways anywhere else. "A late surviving dinosaur: last of his kind, raging throughout Tokyo!" To viewers confused to buy this or not, 1954 is the best Godzilla film for me. No. I am not alone on that. Even his death is so awesome! Give Gojira a watch!

First of all if you think this film is bad you don't appreciate how much effort went into this film. I mean consider the suit actor (R.I.P) for godzilla the suit was omega heavy. Overall just considering that this was a 1954 film and it turned out to be a great start to a great franchise that I hope never ends. Proof of that are the American movies (minus 1998) like 2014 and King of the Monsters. To the point... Godzilla is a great franchise.
