Frankly this is the best live action Disney has made. A jewel amongst a steaming pile probably because it isn't a shot for shot remake and doesn't ruin classic animated moments in piteous attempts to replicate them. Mulan instead twists what we already know and introduces a fantastic new female character, and utilisation of the hawk from the 1998 version and the action is similar to the style of Hero and Crouching Tiger, not perfect, at times a little power ranger in style, but decent. Still far better than the awful parkour start to Aladdin. The story itself is strong for all women. There isn't a forced love male love interest which would've made Mulan's success in integrating with the "lads" so to speak feel problematic and it focuses on a woman's purpose and existence as everything other than conformity. Passes the bechdel test with flying colours, or perhaps flying warriors. It's a movie to enjoy if you want to switch off with a female hero that remembers she's female and the hardships she faces entering a so called man's domain. Don't go into it trying to compare to the original, take it for what it is, that Disney at least haven't just ripped off an old movie with no effort or change. I wish the other disney live actions could be a little more like this in all honesty.

I've seen it the other day with my 12 year old sister, and we both laughed at how bad this movie is. So after the movie was over i showed her the classic Disney cartoon and she liked it. The point is when even a 12 year old says it's bad you know messed up. This abomination does not even deserve 1 star. Don't buy it pls, £20 for this is not worth it.

Loved this film, thought the costume colour and action was spot on, glad a talking dragon wasn't put in from the cartoon. Now for the price..... Yes its £20 and it will be interesting to see how much the dvd is, I say this as blockbusters are now going to loose millions from lack of cinima profits its obvious they are going to need to recoop that money from somewhere, I expect this will have to be from downloads and dvds or we no longer get big budget films for which you can't hold Google for.
