About this movie

In a dark time for a young girl, Spain and the entire world, the haunting fantasies within her mind merge into reality, giving birth to a land of fantastical creatures and secret destinies--Pan's Labyrinth . . . El laberinto del fauno. 1944. Rural Spain. As Franco consolidates his brutal hold after years of civil war, lonely and dreamy Ofelia must come to terms with the cruelty around her. Living with her mother and adoptive father--a military officer under the Fascist government who is tasked with ridding last rebels from their area, Ofelia creates a fable, giving life to a secret inner world to help her cope with a world gone wrong. From acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro (Cronos, Mimic) and produced by Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Y tu mamá también.

In my opinion the ratings on this seem a tad high. Very euphoric and transcendent film that seems to take us back in time when life had more rules than options. The characters play victim to their situations as often as everyone's shoes get stuck in the mud. It's a great film but I would suggest only the adventurous take their own shoes off to enjoy this one.

Spanish without ENGLISH AUDIO. Can't Say I didn't like it because I didn't watch it. It's in Spanish and although I know some Spanish I truly think that they should tell people it's in Spanish without English audio. It's misleading so I never started to watch it. Heard it was a good film but I'll wait for the English version. I watch movies for entertainment. I take Spanish classes to learn. It DOES NOT say anything about it being without English Audio in the description I read. For those mature individuals who felt the need to use derogatory labels of other reviewers.

Had I known that this was a non English speaking movie and I had to read, I wouldn't have ever bought this movie. The title is pretty misleading too. Andrew James calling people idiots because they left a negative review on some BS he liked is freakin hilarious. I saw this movie a good 10 yrs ago, on standard cd. It CLEARLY DIDNT AND DOESNT SAY THE MOVIE IS IN SPANISH . I have still have the original cd. To each his own, Andrew. House of flying daggers is my favorite Sub t movie, so get bent!
