I love Drew Barrymore x 1000 so just had to watch this fun, cool and at times brought a tear to my eye, with lead actress Ellen Pages sheer determination to make the roller skate team. Shes great, not seen her in anything else. Her overbearing parents particularly her mum want her to enter school beauty pageants, but tomboy Ellen, who becomes Babe Ruthless, ends up by sheer fluke of seeing a roller skate magazine, and ends up going to Austin on a Bingo Bus of old folk, no less, to get into the team, which she does and shes good. Trouble comes in the form of a boy in a band who leads her astray somewhat, and is full of the usual lame excuses not phoning her, and her friend gets her to chuck up after getting drunk by thinking of her dad having sex! Her team usually lose, but do really well with Ellen at the helm, but find out shes only 17 so has to get her parents permission to carry on, and finally does. Some great action shots of the girl teams in action, quite rough and vicious at times, but hey its all in the name of the game. I love their freespirited and blokish ways, and think this film just may have a bit of an interest for lesbians- Drew, Juliette Lewis, etc.

Slightly OTT depiction of Roller Derby, most now play flat track RD and elbowing someone in the face is most definitely not allowed! but a great movie about following your heart, friendship and some darn good skating!
