About this movie

Kevin Costner plays the most famous lawman ever to stride the Wild West. In a gritty, complex portrayal hailed as a "classic American performance" (Bob Campbell, Newhouse Newspapers), Academy Award winner Costner (Dances with Wolves, The Bodyguard) plays the man who became a myth in acclaimed director Lawrence Kasdan's (The Big Chill, Silverado) epic, action-filled saga. Gene Hackman, an Oscar winner for Unforgiven, as Wyatt's iron-willed father, and Dennis Quaid (The Big Easy, The Right Stuff) as Earp's deadly best friend Doc Holliday add power to this mammoth, hard-hitting Western. From Wichita to Dodge City to the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, Wyatt Earp is a thrilling journey of romance, adventure and desperate, heroic action.

It's a shame this movie's extended cut is only avail. on the now defunct VHS system! Even though it is over 3 hrs 30 min long, it's still one of the best acted, & most accurate depictions of Wyatt Earp (Kevin Costner) made! The only other dramatization of this consummate man worth it's weight in salt, was Tombstone (another extended edition of accurate & lengthy proportions) with the astute lawman well portrayed by Kurt Russell! While this version is only avail. on DVD, it's STILL not available on blu-ray!

'Wyatt Earp' had the misfortune of being released at the same time as another classic modern western, 'Tombstone'. Most reviewers don't understand that the two movies are fundamentally different. 'Wyatt Earp' is a biography of Wyatt Earp that includes the gunfight at the OK Corral, while 'Tombstone' is a movie about the gunfight at the OK Corral that focuses on Wyatt Earp. Neither approach is a bad one to take for a movie, but because 'Wyatt Earp' is longer and often takes its time getting places, and involves a number of sub-plots I feel people just naturally gravitated to the shorter, tighter, and somewhat more colorful 'Tombstone' Don't let that dissuade you from watching 'Wyatt Earp'; it stands just fine on its own as a great epic. Costner delivers a complex, gritty and realistic portrayal of Earp and the supporting cast is excellent. This is perhaps one of Costner's best roles. Randy Quaid provides a very underrated portrayal of Doc Holliday, and the complex relationship between Earp and Holliday is very well laid out in this movie. Highly recommended!

I have a great deal of disgust with any and all of the Hollywood Producers and or Directors. In the way they twist history to make sure that you (Joe Public) buys it. I understand that sometimes you just absolutely have no other choice. On the other hand, I don't think that they needed to change the way that the Earp bros.were gunned down in Tombstone Az. Of course please this is just my opinion please make sure that everyone understand this, please. Thank you very much.
