About this movie

Forty years, one love, countless cups of tea… Starring Academy Award® winner Jim Broadbent, Academy Award® nominee, Brenda Blethyn in the title roles and Olivier Award winner Luke Treadaway as Raymond. The cast also includes Virginia McKenna, June Brown, Pam Ferris, Simon Day and Roger Allam, with young actor Harry Collett as young Raymond. Based on the award-winning book by acclaimed British author and illustrator Raymond Briggs, this beautifully hand-drawn, animated feature film tells the true story of Raymond’s own parents – Ethel and Ernest - two ordinary Londoners living through a period of extraordinary events and immense social change. Heart-warming, humorous and bittersweet, Ethel & Ernest is a heartfelt and affectionate tribute to an ordinary couple and an extraordinary generation. A timeless story of love and devotion. Stumbled across this film whilst channel hopping at home not too long ago & its very well done.Dont mean 2 sound all hippy like but it does take you on a few of lifes journeys that we all experience some highs & lows in life that we can all relate to in one form or another.Loved the nostalgia & fell in love with the different characters of each individual of this family.A good mix of success, sadness & happiness & wisdom.Very moving & thoroughly enjoyable film & well worth the watch.Give it a chance. My husband enjoyed ths film as much as I did.Beautifully animated in a simple & nieve way which worked really well to tell the story.I really love a film thats excellent without having lots of money spent on its production.Thumbs up from me :)))

Brilliant social history as well as an endearing true story of the Briggs family as remembered by Raymond Briggs famed for The Snowman. I'm sure his mum and dad would have be proud of his work.
