About this movie

Hugh Jackman, Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway star in this critically-acclaimed adaptation of the epic musical phenomenon. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells the story of ex-prisoner Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe), after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's (Anne Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever. This enthralling story is a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit and 'an unforgettable experience' (Richard Roeper, RichardRoeper.com).

I loved this movie! My favourite by far! I've watched this three times in the last month. The music is amazing. I play the entire Soundtrack at least twice a day while completing any work. The actors were spectacular. Such a great choice. My personal favourite is Russel Crowe as Javert. Although his performance is frowned upon I think he really displayed the character of Javert: confused with his life, wanting to change his life to forget his childhood but not having taken the completely right choice to do so. Jackman, Hathaway, Seyfried, Redmayne, Barks are also perfect and I love Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Thenardiers, they bring a touch of comedy in this movie and they fit the roles perfectly. The only thing I wish they had done a bit more is put forward the relationship of Grantaire and Gavroche. In the book, they have such a special relationship and in this movie we can see a few scenes of Courfeyrac with Gavroche but Grantaire is such a hilarious character and he was not as acknowledged in this movie as he deserves especially in the cut Drink with Me solo which, if you have seen the musical is such as beautiful moment. I cry everytime I watch this movie and I would 100% recommend it to anybody in need of a breathtaking movie. I would also reccomend reading the book before/after (even an abridged version) as the detail of such a long book can obviously not be put in a movie, even a 3 hour long one!

Don't just believe the hype - watch it and judge for yourself. A wonderful film for all ages. Watch and sing along then watch and sing along again and again. An emotional roller coaster takes you from happy to speechless to sad. I defy anyone to not be close to tears. Highly recommended. A + + +

This is probably my favourite musical ever! Almost every song is amazing and quite catchy. The setting was so realistic and you can clearly see that they put a lot of effort and research in it. There's so many characters that are great too like Eponine. It's also very emotional and I cried a few different times throughout the film.
